How Verification Works
Most signed documents have a unique SHA-256 cryptographic hash stored in our system. When you select a PDF, it is hashed locally in your browser — the file never leaves your device — and, when a hash is on file, it is compared against the original.
A match confirms the file is byte-for-byte the document we recorded. Anything else — including the audit certificate and re-saved or scanned copies — simply is not a file we hold a hash for, so we report the transaction record without confirming or denying that file's integrity.
A match is the only positive confirmation we can give. A file we hold no hash for and a file that was altered are indistinguishable to us, so treat a non-match as "unknown", never as "fine" and never as "forged".
